Category B Initial stage

The purpose of the training is to give the future driver the knowledge, skills and attitudes to behave in traffic in accordance with the qualification requirements established for the driver of a category B motor vehicle. The purpose of the training is also to create the prerequisites for the driver's responsible traffic behavior and the development of safe, independent, considerate of other road users and environment-friendly behavior.

The initial education of a driver is divided into initial and final education. Elementary education ends with passing national exams at the office of Estonian Transport Administrationand obtaining the first driver's license. The length of the final level study is 23 months, during which the holder of the first driver's license improves his skills in traffic independently and completes the final level training. In both the initial and final stages, driver training takes place in the form of traffic theory studies and study drives.

The minimum volume of driving training is 30 driving lessons, the actual volume is individual. Training is organized using the appropriate training vehicle. The duration of one driving lesson is 45 minutes. At the end of each training trip, the teacher marks the number of hours of the training trip and the assessment of the student's skills in the training card. The grading system is Pass / Fail (A / MA). The topics of training trips are usually covered in the order specified in the curriculum. The student is allowed to drive a vehicle in city traffic after passing the subject "Driving a vehicle". Mastering the subject "Driving according to an individual program" is not mandatory. The driving lesson "Driving a car in the dark" is held in the form of a regular driving lesson. In the latter case, driving training takes place in the dark and is mainly carried out on unlit roads outside of populated areas. Driving lessons on the topics “Performing exercises when driving on a slippery road for beginners” and “Performing exercises to prevent risks when driving on a slippery road” are conducted on a special training ground that accurately imitates a slippery road.
